Guan Hoe Soon Restuarant is the oldest Peranakan restaurant in Singapore. Ironically, the late founder, Yap Chee Kwee, is not of Peranakan descent. He learned the cuisine from observing and learning the dishes from the Nonya population in Katong. With the community's blessings, he set up his own Peranakan restaurant and the rest, as they say, is history.
